Police horses work in many settings, from everyday patrols to large public events. The National Park Service describes how trained horses support crowd and traffic management, while the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin highlights mounted patrols’ community engagement role.
When an assignment calls for protective equipment, the horse needs attention alongside the rider. ExecDefense USA’s horse riot gear range covers four key areas: the face, chest, torso and legs. Here is what each product contributes.

Face guard: protection for the eyes and muzzle
The Police Horse Riot Face Guard combines a clear, 3 mm polycarbonate eye visor with a padded muzzle guard. The muzzle section has a hard plastic outer shell, foam cushioning and a leather underside.
It is designed to help protect against thrown objects and strikes while maintaining the horse’s field of vision and movement. Adjustable straps allow the fit to be checked on the individual horse.

Chest guard: coverage across the front
The Police Horse Riot Chest Guard uses three molded protective pieces: one at the front and one on each side. A hard plastic shell works with foam and textile layers to help protect the frontal torso against thrown objects and hits.
Adjustable straps secure the guard, and reflective bands are available in yellow or white. This adds chest coverage alongside the other protective components.

Protection blanket: coverage for the torso
The Police Horse Riot Protection Blanket extends protection over the torso. Its construction includes 36 individual high-density polyethylene (HDPE) panels, foam padding and coated nylon textiles.
The segmented design allows flexibility, with five securing straps: three beneath the belly and two around the chest. Custom sizing is available on request. It is a protective equipment item with hard panels, rather than an ordinary turnout blanket.

Leg guards: front and rear protection
The Police Horse Riot Leg Guards combine a hard HDPE shell with foam and coated nylon layers to help protect against thrown objects and hits. Front-leg guards include additional knee protection; the rear guards use a different profile.
The current product page lists two size groups with width-adjustable straps. Yellow or white reflective options are available. Check front and rear sizing separately when specifying equipment for a unit.

Fit and preparation matter
Equipment is one part of preparation. The U.S. Department of the Interior’s mounted patrol feature describes how officers and horses build familiarity through repeated exposure to everyday patrol conditions.
For an equipment evaluation, confirm the fit with the horse’s usual tack, check that straps and panels allow normal movement, and request inspection and care instructions.
